GDPR - Privacy Information

As is common with many websites and blogs, this site uses cookies.

Blogger who provide hosting of this site is a Google company, so information about your use of this site is shared with Google. This site uses cookies from Google to deliver its services and to analyse traffic. Your IP address and user agent are shared with Google, together with performance and security metrics, to ensure quality of service, generate usage statistics and to detect and address abuse.

I personally do not have direct access to this info, nor do I collect or store any data about individual visitors.

The Blogger Dashboard provides me with the generalised site statistics including the number of visitors, the posts most often visited, what link (if any)  brought visitors here and the number of visitors from different countries. I can also see the total number of visits where the user has a particular type of browser, and how many visitors use a mobile device / desktop computer, but again not for any specific visitor - just generalised stats. This information gives me some idea of what users in general find useful about  the site and which topics I should write more about. It also means I know which browsers and platforms I need to test my site in to make sure all visitors get the pages correctly.

The feed of tweets in the sidebar (not visible in the mobile version of my site) is provided by twitter. Following linked posts to twitter will probably also result in the use of cookies. A link to their privacy policy is provided at the bottom of this page.

Additionally this site features advertisments, affiliate links or product information / recommendations to other third party sites such as Amazon and sometimes products on eBay etc. These companies may also use cookies to track your usage of this site and to offer you choices based on your previous and current browsing. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases ie : From some of these links I may subsequently receive  a small fee if you go on to make a purchase from my recommendation. I do not have any part in transactions you may make on these sites. A link to these companies privacy policies is included at the bottom of this page.

Typically fees earned come nowhere near to the costs involved in running this site and the hardware costs for the various projects and reviews. ie: This is not a business! The occasional few pounds a year that the site generates are ploughed back into new projects and research. The links are there primarily for the benefit of you the visitor to access items mentioned in the blog.

The same is tue of the donate buttons.  If you wish to support my blogging by making a donation, then I am grateful. If you do not, thats fine too. Just enjoy the site.

If you use the comment system on the blog you will be asked to adhere to bloggers policy for usage. Anonymous posting is no longer permitted - sorry, but I spend so much time dealing with dozens of messages by spammers who post a test comment to see if this is an open comment feed - No, it's not!  Sadly the spammers have ruined it for everyone, and now you need to use a valid google login to comment. I realise that for some this is a limitation, but without the valid google login there is no method of effectively reporting spammers and making them accountable. By posting using your google identity you agree to that identity being shown on this site along with your comment and take responsibility for that comment. All comments are held for moderation and will only be added to the site where I feel are suitable and add value to the topics. My decision in this matter is final and not open to discussion. Post something useful and it goes on the site - simple as that.  Comments that are not used on the site are simply deleted. I do not see nor collect email addresses.

Because of the way Google systems work it is difficult form me to be specific about where comments are stored, but for the purposes of GDPR, I will state that to the best of my knowledge all comments are stored securely upon servers that are based in the US. If I discover this to be incorrect I will amend accordingly.

Topics on this blog offer you the opportunity to share them using various social media via the icons at the bottom of the individual posts. These will  involve collection of some data by the individual providers. You should seek clarification of their privacy policy with these providers if you use them.
